Swenerton Education Center
Outdoor Learning at Mountain Meadow Preserve
The Swenerton Education Center is The Escondido Creek Conservancy’s outdoor classroom at Mountain Meadow Preserve—a space designed to connect students, families, and community members to nature through hands-on learning.
Officially opened in August 2025, the classroom was made possible through funding from our partners at the Escondido Community Foundation. The space is named in honor of Jeff Swenerton, a retired principal and former Conservancy Board member who helped shape the organization’s education programs in the early 2000s. Jeff remains actively involved in fundraising and ongoing work at the Interpretive Center at the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve. His vision—and much of his direct handiwork—helped build the outdoor classroom as it exists today, and he continues to be a strong advocate for environmental education.
Set within a protected landscape, the space provides a place to explore local habitats, observe wildlife, and engage in environmental education rooted in the Escondido Creek watershed.
